Why Animation Matters More Than Most Studios Think

Animation is not decoration. It is the feedback system that tells the player what just happened and how much it mattered.
A win animation is a message. Its job is to tell the player the size of what just happened before they read a single number. Get the scale wrong and every payout feels identical.
We tier motion the same way we tier a paytable. Small wins get a fast, light pop. Big wins earn screen shake, particles and a hold. The gap between the tiers is what creates anticipation.
Anticipation is the most undervalued animation in the entire game. It is a promise that something might happen, and it is free — it costs nothing in RTP and buys enormous amounts of tension.
The last five percent — easing curves, overlap, a two-frame hold on an impact — is the part players never consciously notice and always feel. That is where we spend the polish phase.
